Geees KG, glad to be at GIM, at least real solutions to life's quandries are disscused here, other than that it would be meaningless.........:musicus:

:coolbeer: Thanks KG...
These people are only semi aware compared to GIM... We are much further down the road...but at least they are restless. A positive sign... Interesting crowd...   |

The problem with nuclear energy is that there is no fail safe for war. They are all potential dirty bombs waiting to happen.
The elite prefer them because they like to charge everyone by the month forever. But solar makes so much more sense. Both house by house and big solar power stations in sunny locations replacing the power from oil fired plants first. Maybe they can sell the home systems on 30 year loans and satisfy that seemingly insatiable desire for monthly checks. The storage was the problem with solar energy. Battery storage stinks. But this compressed air storage concept makes solar energy viable. It is clean. It is abundant, and using it might even lower some of the warming, though I'm not at all sure. But it would reduce the burning of oil and leave more for making plastics and chemicals. Our homes, factories and cars can run on solar. We just need to convert. Standing in the way of this is the US corporatocracy. They will not prevail because other countries have better sense. But they may cause us to be the last to get the kind of systems we want. And do that instead of converting edible corn into ethanol, which is a horrible idea. I would buy a solar collector with the excess daytime power converted to compressed air to run the car and the home generator at night if it were available right now. A lot of people would. People so far off the grid it costs less than hooking up, people who want energy self sufficiency, people who want to live modern lives without burning hydrocarbons-- plenty of buyers. Plenty worldwide. Someone will meet that demand with supply. I sure wish we were better governed and it could be GM, GE, Ford, etc putting in American factories and making high quality reliable systems. But it will likely be China, India, Viet Nam or Korea. Because our government would rather GM go bankrupt than build the sensible items. |

When going from gas to electric power, about 7% is loss. Gass to hydraulic, 25% loss. Gas power to air power 50% loss. So compressing air with a solar power cell would involve at least a 40% loss and I think photovoltaics are only 7% (or maybe less) efficient at transferring sunlight. If you have a large enough storage facilty and can make a windmill/air compressor, then you could probably operate off of a combination air/solar system quite readily. If you have any stream running on your property, a constantly turning water wheel could provide enough dc electric to keep a batt system charged. TG |
